Fork Union Military Academy's College Placement & Academic Services Department continues to open doors for cadet success through articulation agreements with colleges and universities across the country. Today, the Academy expanded these opportunities as CAPT Mark Black signed a Guaranteed Admission Agreement with Chowan University. CAPT Black welcomed Chowan University President Dr. Rosemary M. Thomas to campus to commemorate the new partnership.

This agreement ensures that any Fork Union cadet who meets Chowan’s undergraduate admission requirements will gain guaranteed admissionan assurance that helps reduce the stress many seniors feel during application season.

Chowan joins an impressive list of Fork Union’s articulation agreements, which include the Virginia Military Institute, Ferrum College, Norwich University, and The Citadel.

"Today was an exciting day for our Academy," said Mrs. Kelsey Hill, Director of College Placement & Academic Services. "The opportunities this provides for our cadets are truly phenomenal. Fork Union is the first school Chowan University has added to their Guaranteed Admission program, and Chowan’s unique academic structure is a natural fit for our cadets. The two-class, seven-week schedule mirrors our One-Subject Plan, which works so well for so many of our students. Additionally, Chowan’s Life Skills program focuses on career and life preparationskills that benefit all students. As a Division II school, Chowan also creates new opportunities for our student-athletes to excel."

Dr. Thomas addressed the Corps of Cadets in Wicker Chapel this morning, introducing the new agreement and highlighting the unique offerings at Chowan University. Notably, Chowan provides all 11 athletic programs available at Fork Union and stands out with its flexible, focused academic structure.

Like Fork Union’s One-Subject Plan, Chowan divides the academic year into four seven-week sessions. Cadets take just two classes per session, with a flexible schedule that starts no earlier than 9 a.m. and includes a break from classes every Wednesday. These mid-week breaks are dedicated to extracurricular activities, experiential learning, and study time.
