This past weekend, members of the Fork Union Military Academy Band traveled to California to participate in the prestigious National Military School Band & Choir Festival, hosted by Army and Navy Academy. Competing alongside top military school musicians from across the country, Fork Union cadets showcased their exceptional talent, dedication, and leadership.
Among the standout performances, Riley Belden was recognized as the top high school Euphonium player, while Chrysander Rahardjo earned the distinction of top Rhythm Percussion high schooler in the festival auditions. Their achievements highlight both their individual skill and their commitment to musical excellence.
Another highlight of the festival was Joseph Athey’s remarkable performance and leadership. MU1 Bartley of the U.S. Navy praised Athey not only for his impressive musical growth but also for his ability to mentor fellow cadets while continuing to improve himself.
“Joseph’s dedication, drill, and maturity truly stood out,” said Fork Union Music Director John Warren. “He embodied the values we uphold at Fork Union, and we couldn’t be prouder of the way he represented our school.”
Festival conductor Dr. Josh Pace of Lee University’s School of Music also commended Fork Union’s cadets for their maturity, respect, and collaboration, setting a high standard for the event.
The success of the trip would not have been possible without ETN1(SS) John Warren, Music Director, and the support of Mrs. Maggie Gaeth and CPT TJ Van Alstyne, who served as chaperones, ensuring a smooth and successful experience for all.
For those who missed the live performances, recordings are available on the Army and Navy Academy's YouTube Page.
Beyond rehearsals and performances, cadets also enjoyed some well-earned downtime, taking in the beautiful San Diego weather and even spending a little time at the beach to round out an unforgettable weekend.
Congratulations to all of our cadets for their outstanding performances and for representing Fork Union Military Academy with distinction!
