Fork Union Military Academy is proud to announce the recipient of the Academic Award of Excellence for Term 3, a prestigious recognition for cadets who excel in academics and demonstrate exemplary qualities in leadership, community involvement, and work ethic. This award, given each academic term, honors a cadet who has gone above and beyond expectations and made a positive impact on the school community.
The recipient of the Academic Award of Excellence is selected based on several key criteria, including a high GPA, leadership abilities, community service participation, and a strong dedication to academic success. Each term’s winner receives a special prize: a snack plan good for one month, adding an extra reward for their outstanding commitment.
For Term 3, the Academic Award of Excellence has been awarded to Joseph Athey, a senior from Woodsboro, Maryland. Athey, the son of David and Vanessa Athey, has demonstrated remarkable academic success, exemplary leadership in the Corps of Cadets, and a commitment to serving the community. His hard work, perseverance, and positive influence have earned him this distinguished recognition.
This past term, Athey exemplified leadership and dedication in the Academy’s band. When his instructor was unexpectedly out due to illness, he stepped up to lead practices, working with his section leaders and the Commandant’s Department to ensure the band was fully prepared for the inaugural parade. Under his direction, the band learned an entirely new piece of music in just five days, a testament to his initiative, teamwork, and deep understanding of both music and leadership. His ability to inspire and motivate his peers made a lasting impact on the band’s success.
Congratulations, Joseph, on this well-deserved honor!
