FORK UNION, VA – CPT Alton Terry, former Alpha Company TAC and current faculty member, head wrestling coach and assistant postgraduate football coach, successfully completed his PhD in Criminal Justice – Homeland Security through Liberty University’s Helms School of Government this past week.
“As a college prep school, it is imperative that our staff embodies a commitment to lifelong learning through advanced studies – such as master’s and doctoral programs – as well as other professional development and continuing education programs,” said Academic Dean Mike Goad. “Beyond the obvious benefits of enhanced professional and content knowledge, these pursuits allow our faculty to set the example in the classroom – and in life – when it comes to work ethic, pursuit of personal goals, and completing challenging yet rewarding undertakings.”
A week ago, CPT Terry defended his dissertation titled Law Enforcement Perceptions and Responses Regarding Child Sex Trafficking Victims in South Carolina.”
“This accomplishment means so much to me because not only was I working hard for myself, but I was working hard to show proof that if you put your mind to something, you can do it,” said Terry. “With faith, prayer, and hard work, anyone can accomplish their dreams no matter who they are and where they come from. I am excited to see what the future holds.”
CPT Terry was hired in August 2022 as a member of the Commandant’s Department and to assist with the postgraduate football program. Quickly after, the South Carolina native was named head wrestling coach and Alpha Company TAC Officer.
At the conclusion of the 2022-2023 academic year, COL Goad hired CPT Terry to be a member of the faculty to teach PG Writing, African American US History & Literature, and Personal Finance in 2023-2024. During this summer session, CPT Terry is teaching Leadership to summer schoolers.
Congratulations, Dr. Terry!
